View Full Version : how to delete one copy of windowsxp professional

i have 2 copies of windows xp professional on my hardrive
and i want to delete the first one. how do i do this
without deleting both? any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Boot to the copy that you want to keep and type
SET
in a DOS box. Press ENTER and then remember the setting for the
variable WINDIR.
Adjust the BOOT.INI and remove the unwanted Windows installation from
here. See "How to Edit the BOOT.INI File in Windows XP"
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=289022).
Restart. Your computer should boot directly into the Windows
installation that you want to keep. If this is the case manually
delete the obsolete Windows files from the HDD.

you can also do it this way - ie

go start/run - enter 'msconfig'/
go 'boot.ini tab'/
click - 'chk all boot paths'/
sys will prompt you
concerning the duplicate(s) entry
'would you like to remove it from the boot.ini file'
ans - yes
take it fr there
