View Full Version : Tree or server cannot be found

I have a Windows XP pro notebook that windows crashed
while running a database program on our novell network.
Now I cannot login to the network, receiving an error
message that the tree or server cannot be found. The
tree, server and context are all correct. Also, when I
try to ping an IP address from the dos prompt, the only
responses that don't time out are the loopback and
notebooks IP address. I sure could use some help on this
as my machine runs our backup software client.

If you cannot ping any other machine on the network, I'd start by checking
the network cable. Do you get a cable unplugged message when you remove the
cable from the notebook?
If not, try restting the TCP/IP on the notebook - see 299357 How to Reset
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in Windows XP
