why am i such an idiot?

Hi there..
I am attempting to network 2 pc's via a hub. They can
both connect to the internet, but cannot communicate with
each other. I have client for microsoft networks, file and
print sharing , and tcp ip installed. I am havingno luck
with the troubleshooters, and dont know what else to do.

The easiest step to overlook that I can think of to fix
this problem is---make sure both computers have unique
computer names and have the same workgroup name. If that
don't work make sure the IP addresses are unique and the
subnet mask is the same(usually 255.255.255.0)

We need more info. For example, tell us what is connected to the Internet
and the configuration of your LAN (Router, ICS, IP Addresses, Gateways,
subnet nasks).

If your hub is connected directly to the Internet and you are getting 2 ip
addresses from your ISP then your 2 computers are probably not in the same
subnet and you do not have a LAN.

On the otherhand, based on your configuration, maybe all you need to do is
disable the XP built-in firewalls on the computers.
