Even I can answer this one. Microsoft Word and Excel are not included with
Windows XP Home Edition, because they are not part of that program. They are
part of Microsoft Office.

Windows XP is an "Operating System" only. If you desire Microsoft Word,
Excel, etc., purchase and install Microsoft Office XP.

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of any Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.

Neither Windows XP, nor any previous version of Windows, has ever
included these programs, nor any other applications.

Windows is an operating system, and doesn't come with application
software (unless you want to consider WordPad application
software). If your previous computer running an older version of
Windows came with these, it wasn't that they came with Windows,
it was that your vendor chose to bundle them as part of the
package he sold you.

If you want these products you need to buy a copy of Microsoft
Office.

Reason: M$ wants an extra 600 euro from you.

Try google 'open office'. You will be amazed.

The "sad" fact? I think you have that exactly backward.

*No* version of Windows has ever included Office software. Why do
you think it should? Windows also doesn't come with Microsoft
Money, a real graphics program, Desktop Publishing Software, a
refrigerator, a bicycle, or an automobile.

You may think that's bad. I think it's good. If Windows included
any of those things, it would be reflected in the price. That
would take away a choice that we presently have. I want to be
free to buy whatever word processor (and other software) I want,
without having to pay for it both separately and as part of the
operating system.

Bundling of application software with the operating system would
almost certainly be seen by the government as a monopolistic
practice, in restraint of trade.
