I keep getting a message saying these things: System
shutdown. Remote Prodcedure Call. NT Authority\System. It
says I have 40 seconds or so to close all my windows
untill computer will shutdown. Then it restarts my
computer

Read this:

Shortly after connection to the internet, Windows XP (Home)
notifies me of a forthcoming shutdown.

I use a 56K external modem connected to a COM1 port.

The driver installed is one provided by Microsoft.

The modem dials up smoothly.

Furthermore, my PC doesn't contain any virus****.

This is due to the fact that my XP is based on
an upgrade of Windows 98 which was reinstalled
prior to the installation of XP.
