PIF directory

[Another Dude]

I was cleaning up the hard drive and may have deleted the PIF
Directory content instead of the Prefetch. Did I screw up the system?
What should do I do to correct this? My system seems to be running
okay, but I'm concerned.

My WINDOWS\PIF folder is empty so at least there should not be any
critical data in it. You may want to check the Recycle Bin for if you
can restore the folder and if no simply leave that alone.

Thanks Thorsten. I found out that PIF files aren't any big deal. They
are Program Information Files that tell Windows how to setup to run
certain programs. The directory is usually empty. Only odd-ball
programs even write a pif file. All a pif file does is set the
windows size and placement, pick color setup, and fonts.

Some DOS folks have written their own pif files to make the Windows
version of DOS behave sort of like they want it to. Since they barely
function and Windows often blows them out and starts using default
settings soon after opening the program, pif files aren't worth much..
Hence, no one bothers with them and the directory is empty.

Time to backup my system I don't need this kind of unnecessary stress.
