View Full Version : Multiple files

I use WinXP on a P4/2.4. The PC has a wireless connection to another PC with
some file sharing. Some of my files appear in more than one place; some
don't. Example.

1). In C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared\Downloads\Exefiles I have
72 files.

2). In C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\My
Downloads\Downloads\Exefiles I have 126 files which include the 72 files
above.

3). In Desktop\My Documents\My Downloads\Downloads\Exefiles I have 126 files
identical to those in 2) above.

I have been purging my Exefiles to CD. Purging files in 1) above did not
result in automatic purging in 2) and 3).

Questions. Are files listed in 3) merely short cuts to those in 2)?
Do I need two sets of files (after purging) in both 1) and 2)? It seems that
two identical sets of files (User and All User) are a waste of good disk
space.

Peter.

Folders #2 and #3 are different routes that end up in the same place. These
folders are a composite view of All Users\Shared and your folder. The 72
files files are only on the hard drive once. The balance are on the hard
drive once too but they will only show when logged on to your account. A
brand new user would only see the 72 All User shared files.
