As you cannot delete a post(apparently) please ignore
this thread however out of interest I did find the answer
to my problem at the following Knowledge base article
318030. Swtiching on NetBios over TCP/IP from the default
setting to setting two out of the three available worked.
I then setup my network places by adding to them on the
My Network Places tab.I am now able to network print from
the laptop and also connect to the desktop machine .
I hope this helps anyone else who has had a similar
problem.
All the best
