View Full Version : No internet after network bridge?

Hi,
I have a Netgear Wireless router that connects to the
internet and to 2 ethernet computers, and 3 wireless
ones, on one of the wireless computers, I am attempting
to connect one extra computer to the network by bridging,
but whenever I enable it, my network doesn't seem to work
on this 1 computer ( and the one I am trying to bridge ),
Can any one help? I am using a Orinoco wireless PCMIA
card and a D-Link ethernet card for the wireless computer
with this problem.
ALso, The wireless connection doesn't disconnect and my
router sees this computer attached but it doesn't see its
computer name.

It works fine when its not in bridged mode... It appears it cannot contact
the DHCP server(Router)... I have tried another testand it appears if I
connect tothe router by the D-Link ( ethernet ) it all works fine !
Unfortunatly I need it the other way around.. So it appears the wireless
adapter isnt able to contact the entire network yet the router sees it...
Very very strange...

David,
I have a very similar problem to you. It's great to know
I'm not alone. My set up is:-
Main PC running XP with three adaptors. One a DSL link
out to the internet. Another a standard hardwired
ethernet card which links the main PC to a second PC
running 98 SE which forms a simple home LAN. Finally, I
just added a Belkin Bluetooth USB adaptor so that I can
access the net from my new toy a Palm T3 PDA.
Prior to the addition of the Bluetooth adaptor I had ICS
running which shared the internet connection over the two
PCs in my little LAN. No problem. IP address of the LAN
card on the main PC is 192.168.01 set by ICS. Remote PC
gets its IP address from ICS through the LAN adaptor on
the main PC.
Having added the Bluetooth nextwork adaptor I can either
set things up by sharing the DSL link with Bluetooth OR
the hardwired LAN. In each case it works fine. T3 can get
on to the net or remote PC can get on to the net
depending on which I link in thru ICS.
I want both at once! Read about the XP Bridge which
shoudl fix it but on bridging the two network adaptors my
T3 can't get an IP address. Remote PC works fine. It's as
if the T3 request for an IP address can't get through the
bridge.
Anybody help?
Thank You
