View Full Version : Cant access shared folders on network computer
January 10th 04, 02:05 AM
Everytime I try to access any of the computers on the
network, I recieve an error message saying:
"\\Famlaptop is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions.
The network path was not found."
The files are shared, both computers are logged on as
administrator, and the hardware is working. Ive disabled
all the firewalls, but it still isnt showing the shared
files

Make sure that you're logged into the Famlaptop computer. Make sure also
that it's part of your workgroup. The easiest way to log into it is to
open network places, click on the machine name and in the box login with
a valid username and pword for that system.

I'm having the same problem as the first poster. Can
someone please tell me if I'm reading Alex P's
instructions incorrectly?

Okay. But he writes....

When I open network places, all I see is my local shared
documents folder. Where is the machine name Alex is
referring to?
If he means to click on "view workgroup computers" on the
Network Tasks bar, then I see the other computer BUT
click on the icon for that computer does not give me the
option to log in.
Thanks for your help.

Im not exactly sure i follow them either. I forgot to
mention that im using WinXP on all computers (this is for
a home network connection) Ive gotten it to work now. I
think my problem had to do with the fact that a network
connection was disabled. Im not sure exactly what it is,
as my internet sharing was working. Its called 1394
connection. Double check its properties and make sure
its enabled and being used. The icon "said" it was
enabled, but under the properties, it said it was
disabled. Right after enabling it i was able to access
all my shared files again
