Backup options

If I am performing a Backup of files on my computer. My
question is: What is the difference of performing the
backup "on startup" vs. "after logon" ?

"On startup" some files will not be in use yet and can easily be included in
the backup.

If using NTBackup, XP's shadow volume copy is supposed to create a temporary
second copy of in-use files. If low on disk space or if the shadow copy
services have been disabled, this feature could fail.
