Can anyone help?

When I switch on my PC, a folder always opens up on the screen, I make sure
that there are none open when I shut down, but every time I restart, the
same folder is there on my screen (a windows explorer folder). This is a
CLEAN install of XP Pro. I have heard of this happening to other people
before but can't remember the cure.

Anyone know the answer?

Thanks

Hi Keith,

Common issue.

Go to Start/Run and type in: msinfo32 From there navigate to Software
Environment, Startup Programs. The Command column will show you the exact
command line used.

You are looking for a listing that uses a long file name/path with spaces in
it, that is not enclosed in quotes. If found that is the culprit. Do the
same in Start/Run/msconfig/Startup.

If this is the case go to Start/Run/Regedit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run

Look here for the program/folder in question. If listed, double click the
entry and put the full path name in quotes.

I believe this is what you need. Go to the Startup folder via

C/Documents and Settings/All users/Start menu/Programs/Startup

Is there a shortcut to Windows Explorer in there ? You can safely delete
it. I placed a couple of items there that I DID want to open at bootup. If
it still does it, look in Owner and Default user folders along with All
users to be sure.
