Can someone give me step by step instructions how to
setup a direct connection between 2 windows XP Pro
machines using a Cat 5E Crossover Cable with rj-45 plugs

Thanks Carey but this article does address how to use a
Cat 5E connected to both NIC cards. I did it once
between an XP Pro and a 95 PC but I can't remember the
steps.

After plugging in the cable, run XP's Network Setup Wizard on both
computers. It will make all of the necessary network settings, share
all printers, and create a shared documents folder on each computer:
