Hi Tiger
When installing a new program their is normally a " Setup Program " The
file which starts the program install. Usually called Setup.exe
The windows compatability program will start from the original " Setup "
program or it can be started from the Executable file after the program is
installed.
The install disks you have probably self install. That is to install this
program you incert the cd which automaticly starts the install process. If
this is true incert the cd, let it start than exit the startup program.
Open explorer and navagate to the cd and look for the startup file. Clicking
on this file will start the install procedure just as if the install was
automaticly started.
To install the program using the windows compltability program, right click
the Startup.exe file, ( or whatever it is called ) sellect properties than
click the Compatability tab and set the program to run as if it was windows
98. Than click the Startup.exe and the program will install as if it was
windows 98.
If compatability works for this program look in the installed Program Files
and find the start program.
Usuallly Start.exe or some such. It is the file which is used by the
shortcut installed to the Start Menu.
Right click this file and make sure it is also configured to run as a win98
program.
To be frank, I doubt that this will work. I have had some programs work
under the compatability mode and some not.
If the database will export to an ASCII or to comma delimited or even to
dbase. Than the possibility of finding a program which will inport the
database into a winXP program is quite likely.
Post back the results please. I have some experience using databases and
would like to help find a solution.
What is the database? what is the win98 program.
Try looking at download.com. A a search for "Database "
will return several database programs which may work.
