HI there I am totally new to networking . I have two computer that I
want to connect on a network . Machine a is a winxphe and machine b is
a win98se . The router I am using is a D-link DI-604 connected to the
machines with fast cat 5e cables .
I have run the xp network wizard on machine a and then the same wizard
on machine b using the xp CD . The router seems to see the two
machines and assigned them IP address with DHCP . The problem is that
the two machines cannot see each other. If I click on network places
on machine a the only thing I see is the d-link icon. If I click on
network neighbourhood on machine b it tells me that i cannot access to
the network .
I tried to use the ping command and the only IP address that I can
ping from both machines is the router 192.168.0.1 The machines IP
address , send me a timeout message .
Please help .
