Can anyone tell me why some of my jpeg files stored in my
photo directory have suddenly come with a new file
name..The new name is the old file name prefixed
with "copy of"..I have thes files stored in
C:\photo\paf................thanks pete

Files get this type of name when they are copied and pasted to the same
folder.

Using Auto-Archive in any of your image programs? Check the program settings
and adjust your preferences. The feature isn't available in all programs so
may have to try a few to pin it down.

Are you doing a two way synchronizing with backup sets and folders? May be
getting some duplicates from that type of scenario too.

Is a camera resetting its numbering system every time you dowload photos and
creating the copies?

Bet Sharon has hit on the correct answer with her last comment about
resetting the numbering system.

When you download images from the camera, immediately move them into another
folder to prevent the duplication of filenames.
