The first time it happened I was so frustated that I flip
the switch off on the back of the computer and I blew up
the hard drive. Now, it's happening again and I'm doing
everything correctly but I can't get it to turn it off
Please help.

I know when I could not shut my computer down I had to replace the power
supply because it was a bad power supply. But there is a setting XP that
keeps users from turning the computer off when the power button is pressed.
Ask someone about that to make sure you don't have that configured to "Do
Nothing" when you press the power button or sleep button.

Do you have Easy CD Creator installed? If you do, you need to get the XP
update for it.
Cheers.
