Downloads Stop For No Apparent Reason

No matter if I use IE or Netscape, large downloads just
stop at any given time. The download dialog remains open,
but download progress has stopped and cannot be restarted.
I need to cancel and start the download over again. Any
ideas what could cause this?

I dont know. If you're downloading using microsoft then it's bad programming
on their part whatever the cause.
I'd suggest running a download manager like GetRight for larger downloads.

Does this occur at all sites or just certain ones?

You may have some connectivity reliability problems (packet loss, latency
...etc) and you should advise your ISP.
