I have a small test network with a XP Professional
workstation an Win2K server and Win2k pro laptop. They
are connected to a switch and this is connected to a
router. This is connected to a LAN modem. The 2 Win 2K
machines can ping each other and the gateway but not the
XP machine. The XP machine can ping the 2 Win 2K boxes
and the gateway. All three can access the internet. What
do I have misconfigured on the XP box?

Turn off the XP built-in firewall.
