SLOW INTERNET

Help,
Ive got broadband and a good transfer rate, but the time to connect takes
forever, and sometimes the explorer times out and I get a white screen could
not connect.

Its the same physical set up I had under Me which ran well, now THINGS TAKE
FOREVER TO CONNECT TO WEB PAGES, ANDE SOMETIMES THEY DONT CONNECT AT ALL.

Is there some software stting I should adjust ?

I have terrible problems when I connect directly to broadband NTL from my
pc. When I use a router/firewall inbetween, the problems vanish.
