View Full Version : I thought I was the Administrator?

I have a telephone answering machine program that was designed for Win98. I
installed it on XP. There are all kinds of problems. Now, I want to
uninstall it. The Add/Remove Programs>Program Setup requires me to log in
as the Administrator to uninstall. I am the administrator as the owner.
Can I trick the OS to report as an NT machine that I am the administrator or
is there another way?

Have you tried Safe Mode?

To whom it may concern,
The only true way in Win XP to be the administrator is to
boot your computer into safe mode. Start your computer
and after you get the bios/first screen start pressing F8
key continuously until you get the dos prompt screen and
pick safe mode. When XP boots your screen will be large
icons but you will get all your users and an
Administrator login here. Login as administrator and do
the normal removal process through add/remove programs.
Also check to see if there is an uninstall program under
the programs menu for the software program itself.
Good luck,

Not quite true - that only applies to HOME edition.
