I purchase Office 97 some time ago and missed place the
CD-ROM . I have since bought a new computer and would
like to start using the new version of office. Does MS
have a record of my proof of purchase . That way all I
would need is the upgrade

it is highly unlikely unless you purchased it from ms direct. even if you
registered the software with ms, i am not sure if this would prove
ownership. i looked into this once and was told by an ms rep that the only
proof of ownership of software is the original invoice/receipt - the cd,
manual, certificate of authenticity all do not prove ownership. the thing i
would suggest to you is to find someone who has the disk(s) for your version
of office and ask them to burn you copies of them, then install using your
valid product key. you could also call ms and request replacement media,
however, i am not sure if you will be able to obtain disks for office 97,
but it wont hurt to call. the number to call for replacement media is
800-360-7561. you could also call the licensing dept. to check my
information: 800-426-9400.
hope this helps.

Greetings --
Actually, you'll either have to have an Office 97 installed, or
the Office 97 installation CD readily at hand in order to perform an
upgrade to a newer version of Office.
