When I try to upgrade to win xp from win 2ooo I get a
compatibility error messsage that says Win xp does not
support upgrading from Microsoft Windows 2000 professional
to Microsoft Windows XP professional. I click the ok
button and it will only allow me to install a new copy.
But when I try that it will not except my product key it
says that is invalid and I know it's perfectly valid it's
a volume license and has been installed on numerous
machines. Any and all help would be appreciated.

It sounds like your version is an OEM version. OEM versions do not support
upgrading. A Retail version of XP, either full version or upgrade version
will upgrade Windows 2000.

Another possibility would be that you have Windows 2000 Server edition
installed. XP Pro or Home won't upgrade a Server edition. For that you
would need Server 2003
