View Full Version : Phantom offline mapped drives

Weird problem- I have an XP Pro laptop that is joined to
our work domain. I take it home and connect to my home
network where I have mapped a drive (S) to a shared folder
on my home XP Pro box. No problems so far. Set this
folder for offline availability. Works for some time,
then all of a sudden the offline share shows up as (G),
but can not be accessed or disconnected. Shortly
thereafter it now shows 2 offline drives (G) & (S). I can
access the (S) drive since it is actually the correct one,
but auotmatic synchronization at start up and shut down
tries to sync the phantom (G) drive version. Okay, so I
think I'll fool the computer by renaming my (S) mapping
to "TEST", then I'll be able to tell the difference and
maybe it will let go of the phantom. But, it renames
both!!!! Now, this is not the first time I have had this
happen. The last time it was with my Personal drive (F)
at work. We typically set the (F) drive as the user's
personal server store and on all laptops, set it for
offline availability. The same type of problem occured
with this drive, except it phantom mapped it to a
different letter since (G) was already mapped by our login
scripting. When that occured, it "fixed" itself the next
time I came back on the network.

Any guesses?
