Pound sign vanished

Since upgrading from ME to XP ,the keyboard layout has
changed,specifically,the pound sign has gone,the " is
transposed with @.
I have tried the offline help without success.
Can anyone help please?

Go to control panel, Regional and Language....., make changes as needed.

You probably have the regional settings set to the United Gates of America.
Try resetting the regional settings (under control panel) back to Great
Blairtain
