View Full Version : Shutting down problem???
newbie

Hello all,
I've recently started running into a problem while trying to shut down my
Home PC running Windows XP Home. Most of the time it shuts down okay, but
often it an error message will pop up on my desktop saying "Please close all
Microsoft Office applications before shutting down the system". This is the
problem, because every application has been closed. I've tried re-opening
Office applications, shutting them down, and then re-trying. When this
message does appear it doesn't matter how many times I'll wait and
re-try...I eventually have to shut it down by holding the power button for
several seconds.
Any clue why this happens from time to time? I know it's not the best thing
for my computer to shut down this way so I need to fix this before it starts
to cause a problem.
I took a screen shot of what the error message looks like and attached it to
this posts if you'd like to take a look (I just removed some of the folders
that are normally on my desktop before posting it).
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY AND ALL HELP...

The title on the error message window is "Microsoft Outlook."
Suggestions:
--Before shutting down, press Ctrl+Alt+Del. If Outlook is on the
Applications tab, click on it to highlight it. Then click the End Task
button. Now shutdown the computer.
--Find your Office or Outlook CD. Insert it in the CDrom drive. Open Outlook
and look in the Help menu. Click on the Repair option.
--Re-apply any available updates for the version of Outlook you're using. To
do this: Click Help again and select the Office Update option. If your
version does not have that choice, navigate to the Office Update site using
your web browser. Give the autoupdate tool at the site a spin. It works very
similar to Windows Update and will list the available updates for all of
your installed Office products.
