start menu

i dragged the start menu from the left side of my monitor
to the bottom of the screen because it was interfering
with my web searching and popups. now it won't come up at
all. i'm not a newb to computers but rather just xp. i
don't understand how me dragging it could delete the start
menu all together. i can't find control panel either.
please help me get it back. this is my friends computer
and i've tried everything i could think of to get it back
with no luck. i even talked to my best friend who avidly
loves xp and he couldn't help get it back by using simple
methods. start menu is erased. how can i get it back
