Are there any boot disks that can be made for an XP Home
machine, and if so, how, please?

Thanks!

Monticus

Monticus;
Boot disks are not normally needed because all retail and most if not
all OEM Windows XP CDs are bootable and all repair and install options
are available from the windows XP CD.

You can make a MS-DOS Boot Disk (no CD-ROM support)
Open My Computer, right click 3 1/2 floppy, click Format, click MS-DOS
Boot Disk, insert floppy and follow prompts.

Or there are these:

Rick;
This link is better:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q310994

Your links will work if SP1 is not installed and the language is
English.

Thanks. The link was what I was looking for and will make a greater
effort to find them in the future. The problem is that I got my box at
Best Buy and they did not provide a CD it. HP had it loaded prior to
its official release. As I said earlier the link was what I was looking
for.

This was my original issue, and if you can speak to that my grandma
would be really psyched. Thanks again, as always you all provide solid
solutions...

"This file is either missing or corrupt so before XP loads I hit F8 and
the list of boot options appears. I have tried Safe, Safe with VGA,
the last good configuratiuon, all of eight or nine of them. Regardless
of what happens, on the next screen I choose XP Home
because it is the only OS on the machine. Then I receive the
"System file is either missing or corrupt <system
root>\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
I have also tried the shift F10 to perform a non-destructive but that
option never comes up. I went to CompUSA to see if I could get boot
disks for XP home and apparently they do not exist.

I have also put the XP Home upgrade CD into the CD-ROM drive, and
although the CD whirs nicely, the machine does not load anything from
it and I get the same error msg as above."

A Repair Installation would fix it:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_repair_install.htm

Otherwise a destructive reinstall may be your only option.

Your computer has a partition for restoring the computer to original
and depending on what you do with the boot disk may damage the
partition.

Hi JJ,

I've had those links for awhile, so haven't had reason to change them =
(until now - thanks). For International users and the MSKB articles, I =
try to use this format:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=3D310994

Which will pickup on the user's regional settings and direct them to the =
correct language page for the article (the one you posted directs to =
US-English, which may not always be appropriate).
