I just upgraded from WIN98 to WINXP PRO and No files
other that the ones on my desktop got deleted/lost. these
were my most important files. if you know how to recover
them or why this happened could you email me at

Hi Tyler,
Open Windows Explorer to C:\Documents and Settings and look under the =
other user profiles to see if they still exist. They may or may not, =
this is why you should always backup critical data files to removable =
media before making any system changes (especially an Operating System =
upgrade).
If they are not there, and you upgraded with the option to backup the =
existing system, you might try uninstalling WinXP via the Add & Remove =
applet in the Control Panel. If the files are there, then you can copy =
them off and redo the upgrade. Otherwise, they are probably lost as the =
upgrade likely overwrote the space they occupied during the upgrade. =
Retrieval would involve prohibitively expensive recovery tools used by =
someone who knows what they are doing.
