Continued:

My granddaughter was married several months ago, So all I have is a hard
copy of her e-mails.

My scanner does not have OCR.

When I copy to outlook express, then try to cut and paste I get a circle
with a slash through it.

Looks as though I'll have to retype all of her e-mails unless some other
idea occurs to someone. I'm probably making this harder than it needs be.

Since you do not need to edit the emails, use the scanner to simply create
an image as you would when scanning a picture. Save it as a jpg or bmp file
and use any image viewing program to display it.

I have a different take on Joanne's problem and remedies:
(1) Granddaughter (GD) has married and moved away with
groom.
(2) Joanne's O/E is still setup to receive emails to GD's
maiden-name account at Joanne's ISP.
(3) Joanne simply wants to forward GD's emails to a
new/different account at a new/different ISP.
(4) Joanne could use the Forward feature in O/E as opposed
to printing, scanning, and pasting/attaching GD's emails
into new O/E messages addressed to GD at new account/ISP.
Another option is to find out if Joanne's ISP will
automatically forward GD's emails. Yet another option is
for GD to evaluate using O/E or a Web-access option to get
her own emails from Joanne's ISP.
(5) At some future date, when statutory limit for quick and
simple annulment expires, GD should tell Joanne to close
GD's email account for dating-service-replies (at Joanne's
ISP).
