View Full Version : Freezing after installing of the latest update

There was an automatic update of WinXP Pro during this weekend.
Update was installed this morning (6/9/03).

Then, I realized that my computer starts to freeze in frequently, somtime
after 5 min, 10, or 15 mn after booting.
Because of the freezing, I was not able to use the computer.
So I tried System Restore to the previous system check point.
Then, there is no more freezing.

Could someone tell me what is the problem with my computer? It seems that
because of the freezing problem,
I might not be able to update in future. I need your assistance.

Thanks.

Craig

There is an issue with the new 818529 patch. If this was the one:
leave it alone and wait for until it is repaired and re-issued.
Note: to uninstall a Windows Update you should not use the System
Restore but go to the Control Panel > Add or remove programs. You can
find an uninstall entry for the patch here.

I remember reading about the problem. I thought that Microsoft removed the
patch from MS website.

Thanks.

Hello Thorsten,

I installed the 818529 patch on 6/4/03. When I do a Help/About in IE 6, I
see that it's listed as having been installed.

Yet, when I go into Add/Remove in Control Panel, this patch number is not
shown. Is there any other way to remove it?

As far as I know the patch is still available.

You can try using the System Restore tool: "How to Restore the
Operating System to a Previous State in Windows XP"
