Tracked back multiple problems to a program file
called "Orbit" that has made itself to home (under Windows
XP). Have tried everything I know to delete it but it
will not because it is in use. How do I locate it, shut
it down and delete it? It is a MFC file.

Jeffrey,

I suspect it's spyware - this term describes programs that insidiously
install themselves onto your computer, for the purposes of bombarding you
with adverts as you surf, or spying on your web habits. Not *quite* as nasty
as viruses, but certainly very unpleasant. Spyware often piggybacks on
seemingly-innocuous software; if you've ever clicked one of those web banner
adverts that offer "internet accelerators" or "free tool to keep your
windows clock accurate", then that would explain how you got infected with
this.

There's info on the Orbit program at:
http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,6258321~root=security,1~mode=flat

The Lavasoft software it references is "Ad-Aware" - a very excellent tool
for removing most spyware/adware. Ad-Aware is free for personal use (though
donations are encouraged); it can be downloaded via
www.lavasoft.de.
When you've installed Ad-Aware, be sure to use the "Update Reffile" feature
of the program to make sure you have the latest version of its spyware
reference file - this will make sure that Orbit is detected and cleaned.

Good luck!

Jeffrey,

"orbit explorer" (if that's what you have) = Xupiter parasite!
Check for Spyware | Adware | Parasites | Dialers | Hijackers | Trojans

SpyBot 1.2 [freeware] http://security.kolla.de/
(will find and permit removal of most Spyware programs)
