Need help downloading/reading attachment/file

Through my aol E-mail I rec'd a file which I downloaded.
In trying to bring it up to view -- a Microsoft Word
Conversion pop up appeared stating unable to load
graphics conversion with a y/n action point only y is not
an option and n leads to another pop up -- Wordpad
stating that an unexpected error occurred while reading...

Help -- what can/should I do? Thx to any and all for your
assistance!

It sounds like the attachment contained images as well as text. Word
needs its graphic filters installed to display the pictures. Run the
Word setup. You should have a separate CD for this program. If the setup
screen doesn't ask if you want to add components, select Custom Install.
Choose the graphic filters from the list of available components that
will appear.
