When you are on the Win98 PC and trying to access a drive
on the XP computer, the password is either the XP password
or a password that has been selected as necessary to
access that drive as was setup on the XP machine when
sharing was enabled. When you chose to share this drive on
the XP computer, did you click the choice to make it
password protected? If so, you entered a password in this
screen and this is the password the access dialog box is
looking for.

In Windows XP, it isn't possible to associate a password with a shared
drive.
