I have just upgraded to windows XP from ME, and am unable
to login using the password I specified during setup (the
only option it gives for user is the user name I specified
then). After trying various things, it turned out hitting
ctrl-alt-del twice gets me to the window where I can type
in both a username and password. However, neither
administrator nor my own username work with my passwd. Is
there a way I can bypass this, or get back to my original
os at this point?

Thanks in advance for your help!
Marina

Maybe you can re-format the drive and reinstall XP if you have the full
version.

I don't use passwords on my home PC .. everywhere else has an administrator.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.
