Is it possible to create a boot disk in XP Pro, as the the
last time it fell over I had to re-install '98 (as I did
have a boot disk for this), then install XP over the top of
this.

The XP setup disk is the boot disk, if your motherboard supports it you
should be able to stick in the XP setup disk and boot from the CD and then
install XP, check you BIOS to see the boot order if the CDROM is in the boot
order set your computer to boot from the CDROM as the first boot device.
Cant boot from the CDROM never fear download, this tool to create floopy
boot disks

Obtaining Windows XP Setup Boot Disks
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310994
you will need 6 floppies

If your 98 boot disk is the one with CD-ROM support, it should be fairly
easy.to install XP using the 98 boot disk, boot with CD-ROM support using
the 98 setup disk
stick in you XP setup disk, go into i386 directory of the XP CD run
WINNT.EXE, this will start the XP setup, remember to remove the 98 setup
disk when it restarts

Let us know how you get on
