View Full Version : Problem setting up VPN client on XP Home

Frustrated IT Guy

I'm trying to set up a pc with XP Home to connect to my
work network via VPN. When I go through the wizard I
choose the VPN option and after the wizard is done. The
VPN connection shows up under dial-up not VPN and
says "Unavailable - Device missing". This pc has cable
internet and the local connection works fine. I was able
to accomplish this with a XP Pro and a 2000 Pro machine
and had no problems. Please help.

Alright, I believe I have a solution for you. I'm also an IT guy and this problem frustrated me for much of the day. Here are the steps to resolve the problem:

1. open up a command window
2. type netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
This will reset the ip stack.
3. type netsh winsock reset
4. Restart

I did this on a windows xp home computer, and it is now working. I hope this helps.
