I've been trying to find out what Windows Journal Viewer
is all about. There is technical information available
through Microsoft but when I requested info I was sent to
a "tablet PC ad". I'm not trying to buy anything just want
to know what it is as I like to incorporate as much of the
built in functionality of Windows as possible.
XP was just loaded on my system recently (last week) so
I've been exploring the upgraded goodies! Can anyone fill
me in on what journal is for and how it's utilized?
Maybe the name is just misleading and it's not a journal
at all but rather some support software for other
peripheral hardware...just would be nice if there was a
description of it somewhere!
regards,
Cherylb ;-)

Windows Journal is an application that is part of the Windows XP Tablet =
PC Edition operating system. It is an application that allows you to =
hand write on the screen instead of using a keyboard for input. A =
viewer is an application that you can use to view files that were =
created in an application that you do not have on your system. It lets =
you view the files, but you cannot edit them. For instance, there are =
Word viewers and Powerpoint viewers that allow people to read/see these =
files who do not have Word or Powerpoint installed on their machines. =
So the Journal Viewer would let you view files someone had created with =
Journal on a Tablet PC and sent to you on your PC.

This accessory enables users who do not have a computer running Microsoft® Windows®
XP Tablet PC Edition to view files that were created in Microsoft® Windows® Journal
on a Tablet PC.

Journal is a tablet PC program. Think "electronic notebook" and that's
Journal. I scribble notes into the program every day. Next to One Note,
it's my favorite tablet PC program.
Journal Viewer is a program that allows users that don't have a tablet
PC to read journal files. Handwritten notes, signatures, sketches, and
other journal content can be viewed on a regular PC.
PS: There is a new Microsoft program similar to Journal called "One
Note." It is suitable for use on tablet PCs and on desktops/laptops.
It's currently in beta but there is a public preview available now.
Official release is expected later this year.
