I used my cd to boot into repair for a problem that I later
found out didn't really exist.
However, when I pressed "any key to boot from cd", I got
the message that there is a partial install and gave me the
options to finish install, new install, or exit. I exited
and my XPsp1 Home Edition booted into Windows normally. I
have been using XP for a month without problems. I upgraded
from 98se, after reformatting the HD.
If I don't get rid of the partial install, I may have to
start over because I won't be able to use the OS repair
feature from the cd. And you know that sooner or later I'm
going to need it. Rats!

Check the path to your active Windows folder. Start> Run and type in
%windir% then click OK.

In System Properties> Advances> Startup and Recovery> Settings, click
the Edit button in the System Startup section. This will open the
boot.ini file in a Notepad window.

Remove the line that references the partial install. Delete the line for
that disk/folder for that item too. Save your changes. At the next
restart, the boot menu should be gone.

NOTE: If you are unsure which lines to remove, copy and paste the
contents of the Notepad window to a newsgroup message. Someone will take
a look at it and tell you which lines can be removed.
