I am curious why my monitor shuts off and then right back
on every time I switch users. Is this a default of XP or
is it something that I can change?

No it isn't Craig. There has been mention that a recent update is causing
issue to where when switching users, the system powers down. So, in this
light you are fortunate. :o) Will check more into
it for you and good luck in the meantime.

I have this problem, but I don't mind. Especially as we use different
screen resolutions (my partner needs 1024x768 pixels while I prefer
1280x1024) in separate user accounts. Note that WinXP does not
generally support different video settings for different user accounts
so we use a 3rd party tool <XP Keep Per User Display Settings>
to manage this. Since installing that software, we have this
momentarily 'blank-out' each time we switch users.

Perhaps its a case of slightly different screen settings at same
pixel resolution - in your case - which could trigger WinXP to behave
this way?!
