outlook spell checker!! where is it!

Why can I not use the spell checker in Outlook Express!! The Icon is at the
top of the screen but grey like a button you can use at this time!! Help I
spell crappy!

Greetings --

Outlook Express, as you've discovered, has no spell-checking
capabilities of its own. Instead, it relies upon the presence of
other Microsoft applications, such as the Office Suite, Word, or the
Works Suite. There are also some 3rd-party shareware/freeware
solutions available at any of the many shareware sites on the Internet

Spell Magic seems well thought-of, though I haven't tried it myself:

In order to use Spell Check in Outlook Express, one must install either
Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works, or Microsoft Office. These software
programs are available for purchase at your favorite store that sells =
computer
software programs.
