Hi i hope this question hasn't been asked a million times
already. How can i (i'm using XP home) install something
so that it doesn't appear on all the users accounts, and
only in mine (there r 3 users). Thanks in advance.

after installing the software, go to documents and settings/all users/start
menu...and look for the appropriate shortcut.

when you have found that, you can move it to your own documents and
settings/<your account>/start menu...etc.

the other users won't now see that shortcut from their start menu, but they
may be able to run the application/software if they look, and know how to,
for the actual exe file.

hope this helps.

Nick, unless the setup program specifically asks if you want to install
the application for everyone or just for yourself, it's anybody's guess
where the shortcuts will be placed. (Most, but not all, will end up the
in All Users folders.)

Windows uses two folders to display a desktop and startmenu for each
user:

Start Menu:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu
C:\Documents and Settings\<user account>\Start Menu

Desktop:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu
C:\Documents and Settings\<user account>\Start Menu

The items in the All Users folders appear ... well, for all users.
Items in the user's own account folders show up for that user only.

Use Windows Explorer and check the above locations for new program's
shortcuts. If they are in one of the All Users folders, copy them over
to the corresponding folder (desktop or start menu) under your account.
