View Full Version : Order of numerical files

All of my numerical files don't list in the same sequence they did under Win
98 - for example, files 0031 and 030 would list in this o0rder in Win 98,
but as files 030 and 0031 in Win XP. Generally, it appears that the zero
placement is ignored when putting files in numerical sequence. So, file
000_16 would be near the front of the list, and file 16 near the end of the
number 1 in 98, but in XP, the two would be right beside each other. How do
I fix this problem so I can find my files?

In XP - in response to long standing request - sequences of numeric
digits in a file name are treated as numeric values when sorting.=20
Unfortunately no tool was provided to switch this on and off. A method
is given at
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=3Dkb;en-us;318872=20
but I have not actually tried it
