I installed a new hard drive and installed XP on it. The installation was
error free and now I have a 98/XP dual-boot system. Fine for now but I want
to remove the 98 drive. When I disconnect the 98 drive I cannot boot from
the XP drive ("system not found" error). What do I have to do to remove the
original drive so XP will boot from the new drive?

You will have to edit the boot.ini file to remove the reference to
Windows 98. To avoid having to reconnect your hard drive to start
Windows XP, you can use the Recovery Console to edit the boot.ini
file. See this link for information on running the Recovery Console
from the Windows XP Cd-ROM:

You can't remove the boot drive, which is the C: drive and contains the
NT boot loader files. You can remove w98 from the boot.ini file and from
C:, but you need to retain the C: partition so that XP can remain on D:.

1. Connect the new drive as master on the primary IDE port.
2. Boot the XP installation CD, run the recovery console, and execute
the following:
a. fixboot c:
b. bootcfg /rebuild
1. Windows XP for name
2. /fastdetect for options
c. copy ntldr and ntdetect.com from XP CD to C:\
