View Full Version : Display Alignment
cl
December 6th 03, 10:37 AM
I upgraded from ME to XP yesterday.
The display screen has 1 inch of black space to the right,
and the script on the left (above the start button) is not
visable.
I do not know how to align the screen display. The
fullscreen button has no effect. No arrows appear when I
slide the mouse over the margins.
Help!
Thank you.

Hi
You may have to have a look at the manual that came with your monitor to =
adjust the horizontal position. Why the screen alignment has changed =
during your XP upgrade I can't say.

you must be using a crt. now the thing you need to do is browse through the
manual of your monitor and see how to put the whole picture properly on the
screen.
most likely also, your monitor has a few controls on its panel...check it
out most times, it will have either lights on it or something will appear on
the screen. the controls are mostly very simple to understand and use.
check it out.
best of luck,
dennis

Greetings --
What happens when you adjust the vertical and horizontal
positioning and sizing controls on the front of your monitor?

This is a very common phenomenon when changing video drivers,
actually.

Agreed, Bruce, but the OP was an upgrade from ME to XP and although the =
drivers 'should' have been updated, not everyone does that.

It could be that the WinXP CD included newer (than WinMe's)
drivers for the OP's specific card, as well.

....which isn't always advantageous especially with display drivers. I =
believe that there are different drivers available in the 'original' XP =
CD and the 'SP1' XP CD. I have found that all my PCs run better on =
Nvidia's 30.82 version drivers rather than 40.72 that is offered in WU. =
Haven't tried version 44.03 - although they are 'WHQL Certified' - with =
a proviso..

Greetings --
No argument there. I've found that the drivers various device
manufacturers supply to Microsoft for inclusion on the OS installation
CDs and service packs are often missing features that are in the newer
(and sometimes older) drivers obtained directly from the manufacturer.
Besides video drivers, I've found this is also a very common practice
with printer drivers.
