Hi,
After some help pleease,
I have a new pc with XP-pro sp1 , no updates/hotfixes,
trying to install sware/drivers for new hp scanner &
printer.
bothsets of swrae install & work fine as administrator ,
but when I switch to a (limited)user account there are
variable errors when accessing same apps..the printer
assisteant just gives a blank screen , the scanner
director opens okay but when select a specific app it
says 'cannot find file' cannot find my pics' etc etc &
refuses to operate correctly. Searcehd MS KB , this
suggested that the programs were not fully compat with XP
( both CD's have 'designed for xp' logo ). So I dld the
latest avail on hp site ( one was a 200mb+! thank the
lord for DSL) & try again.. much the same result.
What am I missing/doing wrong??
NB did 'explore all users' and the folders/shortcuts are
all there .

Best Regards , Phil

Retry after you have reinstalled the applications from the user
account. You can install into the same folder, this would just be
required if the errors are due to some Registry settings missing from
this account.
If this does not help I would contact the manufacturer of the
software. It may be that one needs admin credentials to use the
programs.

Hi ,
when trying to install from a limited acct was unable to
proceed, had to 'Run as' . After this the programs were
just not functional from either the user or admin accts.
I cannot believe that company size of HP has distributed
this sware with XP install problem ( esp as searh on hp
siteshows no known issues- also tried google).. Much more
realistic that I'm doing something wrong:-)
Is there no tinkreing with policy editor that can be done?

Give the user admin rights and reinstall the application. Then
restrict the user profile as before and see if the application still
runs.
