View Full Version : Can I use Norton Systemworks 2000?

New computer comes tomorrow-ish with XP. Have been using machine with
Win98.

I was wondering if I can successfully install Norton Systemworks 2000
Pro (version 3.0). That is, first, will it work and, second, is there
a likelihood that installation will overwrite Windows files with older
ones? When I first bought NSW I used its one-year virus protection and
then replaced that aspect with AVG, so I'm just looking at the other
"works". TIA.

Norton SystemWorks 2000 is not compatible with Windows XP.
It will cause massive registry corruption. I suggest that you consider
purchasing System Mechanic (www.iolo.com) and Norton Internet
Security 2003 ( http://www.symantec.com/sabu/nis/nis_pe/).
Your Windows XP computer will be forever happy!

Norton System Works 2002 and 2003 are compatible with XP. I am using NSW
2003 with XP, and it has performed flawlessly.

Rats. Well, at least I asked before installing rather than later.
Thanks for your reply. I'll look into System Mechanic.

Hopefully my Hasbro Scrabble game will work in XP. Not quite in the
same category as Nortons, I realize, but I'm wondering now what I can
take with me and what might do damage.

Maureen;
The vast majority of applications work OK, some need to be run in
Compatibility Mode:
Start/All Programs/Accessories/Program Compatibility.
I have never had an older game cause any problems with Windows XP,
although I did have one that would not run in windows XP.
Check the website of application manufacturer.
Often there are patches for windows XP.

Antivirus applications and other such utilities are more OS specific
and need more care when installing.
