I am installing XP Pro on an older computer. Clean install,
after doing a format C. Soon after it says setup will
complete in 39 minutes, I get this error:

"Fatal Error. An error has been encountered that prevents
Setup from continuing. One of the components that Windows
needs to continue setup could not be installed. The volume
for a file has been externally altered so that the opened
file is no longer valid. Press OK to view the Setup log
file." Press OK, this displays (my CD is drive G):

"System Setup Log- C:\WINDOWS\setuperr.log
Error:
Installation Failed: G:\I386\asms. Error Message: The
volume for a file has been externally altered so that the
opened file is no longer valid.
xxx
Fatal Error: One of the components that Windows needs to
continue setup could not be installed. The volume for a
file has been externally altered so that the opened file
is no longer valid."

Thinking I got a bad load from the CD, I started over. Same
exact messages. I allowed it to restart after the error
display, and it said "setup is being restarted". Setup
completed and the installation seems to work ok.

I've used the same CD to install XP Pro on several machines
(with appropriate Product Keys) so I know the Installation
CD is OK, at least with the hardware present in the other
computers.

Should I be concerned about this error? What does it mean?
Some expert guidance would be most appreciated. Thank you!
