View Full Version : Stuck in Stand by mode

I cannot get my computer out of Stand by mode by pressing
keys on my keyboard or moving the mouse. I have to turn
the computer off with the power button to bring it out of
Stand by. Anyone know why this might be happening? HP
Support could not help me with this!
Thanks, Val

Have you configured both (mouse and keyboard) to allow exiting standby? Do
you have power switch set to 'standby'?

My power switch is set to "turn off" and I don't know
were to go to set the mouse and the keyboard to allow
exiting standby?

Right click My Computer > properties.
Hardware Tab > Device Manager.
expand the mice... and/or keyboards.
double click your device.
power management tab:
check 'allow this device to bring the computer out of
standby'
Hope this helps,
John

I checked and both were already set to allow exiting
standby. And I am still having the problem.

Here is a link to the most common standby and hybernate
issues:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_standby.htm#xp_acer

Hopefully you can find something there to help you. You
may need to know your motherboard manufacturer and bios
info(you may need updated drivers). You didn't say, but
does your computer resume from hybernation?

You can also search the MS knowledge base:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=FH;EN-
US;KBHOWTO
or:
http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm
Best of luck,
John

Thanks! Hp support had me go into System
Device Mananger then system device then Microsoft ACPI-
Compliant System then Uninstall and restart the
computer, which reloaded all the drivers and that fixed my
problem so far. He also had me reset the default Bios.

Hi Val,

I have the same problem with my computer.

> problem so far. He also had me reset the default Bios.

I want to follow what you have done except for the Bios setting.
Could you please what did you change with Bios?

Regards,

craig
