View Full Version : Access denied on workstation

This is a long question. I hope you will take the time to read and help.
In my simple 2 workstation, Windows XP network I am logged into BOTH machines with administrator priviledges, no passwords-no restrictions.
If I create a folder on workstation 1 over the network from workstation 2, then I cannot access that folder from workstation 1. My access is denied.
I can access the folder only from the workstation from which I created the folder.
Is there any way to overcome this?
This is a problem because I have reinstalled "workstation 2" and now cannot access these folders at all. I really don't want to reformat the disk, but I need to access and then delete these folders in question.
Booting into safe mode is no help.

Make sure you have the XP Internet Connnection Service (firewall) disabled.
It resets itself to "on" each time you configure the network settings on a
PC.

Firewall is not the problem (even though I am not firewalled).
Only the folders created on another workstation are inaccessible. It is a permissions problem.

I see. One of the solutions that worked for me when I had the same problem
was to purge the DNS cache on each computer. If you use the Repair function
in My Network Places, you might get a pop up that says the DNS cache could
not be flushed.
Here's how to do it:
Click Start, Run.
Type CMD and press Enter.
In the DOS emulator window type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter.
Once the process is complete, type exit and press enter to close the
window.

After searching the Security New Group I found the answer to my own question.
Here it is:
How to Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP
